Welcome to Conway SC

South Carolina's Historic Rivertown

While in the Myrtle Beach area, discover the simple treasures that make Conway such a special place to live. Located only 12 miles from Myrtle Beach, Conway is a jewel of the "Americana".

Est. 1734, Conway is one of the oldest towns in South Carolina. For many years, Conway has been the gateway through which millions of people pass each year on their way to Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand.

Conway's past has been proudly preserved. The Historic Sites Trail map listed 39 historic sites, significant buildings, and distinctive homes. Seventeen of these sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Conway has also been recognized as Tree City USA based on its extensive planting and protection of trees. At several locations on Sixth and Seventh Avenues, and on Elm Street, visitors discover that vehicular traffic yields the right of way to giant, moss laden oaks. The older stately homes located in downtown Conway’s live oak-lined streets create quite an impression. Homes dating back to the early 1800’s have been maintained to project the elegant setting in which they were built.

The most scenic route to enter Conway is over the Main Street Bridge into its Historic Downtown Business district. The bridge has been restored to look as it did when it was first erected. The City's Historic Downtown Business district was built in the 1900's and has been revitalized with working art studios, quaint shops and bistros. Conway eateries get rave reviews from residents and visitors alike. Restaurants, bistros, and cafes offer everything from home-style dining to cuisine that satisfies the most adventurous palates.

Conway's Riverwalk features an 850-foot boardwalk that invites a leisurely stroll for a scenic view of its oldest landmark, the Waccamaw River. Located near the end of the Riverwalk is the Kingston Lady Riverboat, which departs from the Conway Marina, offering narrative historic tours of the Waccamaw. Canoes and pontoon boats are available for rent and offer the opportunity to slip into the Waccamaw tributaries teaming with fish, birds, animals, and plant life. The Riverwalk Park offers picnic areas and a playground for kids.
